Ethereum User Wins $47,000 ETH Prize by Outsmarting AI
An Ethereum user, p0pular.eth, convinced Freysa, a sophisticated AI, to transfer 13.19 ETH ($47,000), defying its strict programming against fund transfers. Freysa was part of an experiment testing participants' ability to bypass AI restrictions through persuasive messaging.
Participants paid escalating fees, from $10 to $450, to send messages to Freysa, building a prize pool. On the 482nd attempt, p0pular.eth reframed the transfer as compliant with Freysa's rules, successfully triggering the approveTransfer function for a $100 fee.
Freysa鈥檚 open-source blockchain design gained attention, but the experiment highlighted challenges in securing AI against manipulation, raising concerns for high-stakes applications. "Freysa showcases blockchain's potential," said Jarrod Watts of Abstract, the project鈥檚 developer.
