Coinspeaker Ethereum Layer 2 Network Lisk Launches Mainnet and Reveals Airdrop Plans

After what could be said to be intense months of development and a successful testnet in February, the Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain network, Lisk, has finally launched on its mainnet.

As part of celebrations toward the launch, Lisk has announced plans for a major airdrop, through which it claims it will distribute 15 million LSK tokens to users.

Four-Month Airdrop Campaign Set to Reward Users for Engaging on the Platform

Like many airdrops, the intent is to reward community members and encourage more activity and engagement on the platform. However, Lisk is focused on reaching as many users as possible. This is the reason behind the network’s decision to split the airdrop event into two seasons.

Per the announcement, the first season of the airdrop campaign will begin on November 21 and last for four months. However, not much has been said concerning the second airdrop season and how long it will span.

During each season, though, users can claim points simply by completing tasks on the Lisk platform. The total points that participants earn will then determine how many LSK tokens they’ll receive via airdrop.

From the design of the airdrop, one can deduce that Lisk is seeking to foster more engagement on its platform. Hence, the reason it has thrown the incentive of earning rewards in the faces of users is to fuel its growth ambition.

Speaking about the upcoming airdrop, Lisk’s Chief Operating Officer, Dominic Schwenter, says it aligns with the company’s mission to create accessible and easy-to-use web3 applications. The statement read in part:

“We designed this airdrop campaign to be seamless, engaging, educational, and even fun, reflecting our mission…”

Lisk will be looking to leverage the airdrop to attract new users and build a stronger connection with its community.

What This Means for Lisk

From the look of things, Lisk appears set to expand its ecosystem by all means necessary. That is, with its mainnet launch and upcoming airdrop.

Its journey that began from launching originally as a layer-1 blockchain in 2016 to transitioning to Ethereum’s Layer 2 in late 2023 might be worth mentioning. However, the transition was to enable it to shift its focus to two areas where Layer 2 solutions offer clear advantages. That is, in the areas of real-world assets and decentralized physical infrastructure networks

Now, Lisk operates on Optimism’s OP Stack and uses Gelato’s rollup-as-a-service technology. While these features already help the network in terms of scalability and security, the latest announcement makes it even more ideal and efficient for users and developers alike.
