PS5 pro preorders started 26th September 2024 and are quickly selling out despite the price criticism. Both the editions, standard and 30th anniversary limited, were available for preorders at the same time.
The PS5 pro 30th anniversary limited edition price was revealed today on Sony’s website. Surprisingly, the limited edition had only 12,300 pieces and was priced at $999 in the US and £959.99 in the UK. The special edition costs are higher than the standard one as the design features a classic PS1 console color.
The special edition was sold out in the UK within a few minutes.
Moreover, the PS5 Pro is reported to be selling out fast in multiple countries as well. A user on X, Alejandroid1979 shared that the new PS5 pro priced at $1000 AUD is ranked no. 1 in the best-selling list gaming category.
After weeks of online bashing, the PS5 pro pre-orders seem to do well on the very first day. There can be multiple reasons for this.
Scalpers bought PS5 PRO special editions to sell at much higher prices
The vast majority buying are trying to sell it.

One reason for the immediate sell-out of the PS5 pro special edition could be the motive of reselling at higher rates. The people who opt for such schemes are known as scalpers.
Since the 30th-anniversary edition was limited, it had the natural potential of quickly selling out. Scalpers taking on the opportunity got their hands on the customized console first.
PS5 pro anniversary edition sold on a higher price on Ebay
Soon after the new PS console sold out on the official website, it started appearing on eBay, with a price reaching $10000 USD. Either way, it’s a win-win for Sony as it is still a sale for them even if the console ends up in a scalper’s hands. As commented by an X user @RinoTheBouncer “..if scalpers didn’t know it’s highly demanded, they wouldn’t have wasted their money”.
Gaming enthusiasts are also ready to spend on PS5 pro
It’s unlikely that the only buyers of PS5 Pro are the ones who want to resell it. There is another side that genuinely wants to experience the new upgraded console, which is gaming enthusiasts.
There are many gamers waiting in line to get their access to PlayStation Direct and buy it despite the anger over the price in a few days.
While many of these players are frustrated over the long waiting list, others are satisfied with the purchase.
In a recent interview with GameSpot, Toshi Aoki, Sony’s product manager said that PS5 pro “is for the enthusiasts, the most engaged players,”.
Apparently, this is what seems to be happening with the quick sell-out.
