Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk shared a meme on his X social media platform, hinting at the possibility of heading a new government department should former President Donald Trump reclaim the White House in the 2024 election.
The meme features an AI-generated image of Musk seated behind a desk, with a placard reading "D.O.G.E." - a clever play on words referencing both Dogecoin and a hypothetical "Department of Government Efficiency." DOGE surged following the tweet, and is up 1.95% over the past week.
This post comes in the wake of Trump's recent statement to adopt Elon Musk’s proposal for a government efficiency commission if re-elected. Musk retweeted Trump's remarks, stating: "This is badly needed."
While stopping short of committing to an official government position, Musk expressed his willingness to serve, stating, "I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises," adding that he would require "no pay, no title, no recognition."
Musk is currently serving as the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, owner of Neuralink, The Boring Company, and the X social media platform.
