وكان "بورتنوي" قد انتقد سوق عملات الميم، في منشور له بتاريخ 19 فبراير على منصة X، واصفا إياه بأنه قائم بالكامل على الجشع،
ثم أطلق عملة#GREED كتجربة اجتماعية تعكس الطبيعة الحقيقية للقطاع.
وبحسب تحليل لشركة#Lookonchain قام “بورتنوي” بشراء 357.92 مليون عملة، أي 35.79% من إجمالي العرض، مما دفع القيمة السوقية للعملة إلى 30 مليون دولار بسرعة.
ورغم تأكيده في البداية أنه لن يبيع، تخلى “بورتنوي” عن كامل ممتلكاته في معاملة واحدة بعد ساعة فقط، مما تسبب في انهيار العملة بنسبة 99% إلى أقل من 3 مليون دولار، محققا ربحا قدره 258,000 دولار.
بعد ذلك، أطلق عملة GREED ويمتلك حاليا 26.8% من إجمالي العرض.
لاحقا عاد بورتنوي ليؤكد أنه لم يَعِد أبدا بعدم بيع أي عملة باستثناء “JAILSTOOL”، وهي عملة ميم أخرى قائمة على شبكة سولانا.
هذا وكان قد اشترى 57.16 مليون عملة “JAILSTOOL” في 9 فبراير الماضي، ثم باعها بالكامل مقابل 586 #SOL لكنه عاد واشترى المزيد، حيث أنفق 1000 SOL للحصول على 23 مليون عملة.
