According to Cointelegraph, Telegram messenger has played a significant role in advancing global cryptocurrency adoption by integrating cryptocurrency features and supporting various crypto wallets. This allows users to access digital assets directly within the platform. While some industry experts believe Telegram could be instrumental in reaching the first billion crypto users, it is not perceived as a competitor or threat to traditional crypto entry points like web browsers.

Despite browsers like Apple's Safari taking a cautious approach to adopting crypto features, the crypto ecosystem has flourished on crypto-friendly browsers such as Brave and Opera. Google, which operates the popular Chrome browser, has not restricted crypto extensions and related tools, as noted by Jorgen Arnesen, executive vice president of Mobile at Opera. Brave's vice president of business operations, Luke Mulks, stated that Telegram's rise in crypto adoption reflects the growing demand for crypto and additional use cases among mainstream users. However, he emphasized that this does not pose a threat to browsers, which remain gateways to the web, including Web3.

Opera's Arnesen echoed similar sentiments, highlighting that while Telegram's TON blockchain and projects like Hamster and Notcoin have made significant impacts, web-based crypto adoption is expected to surpass these achievements. Chrome, with its vast user base, has fostered a thriving ecosystem of crypto extensions and tools, enabling users to interact with crypto directly within their browser.

The TON ecosystem, although closely associated with Telegram, is not limited to the platform. Alena Shmalko, TON Foundation ecosystem lead, mentioned that Telegram is just one distribution channel for TON-based projects. The foundation is working to create a decentralized ecosystem where Web3 products on TON are accessible through various methods, whether as a web app, a Telegram Mini App, or a Chrome extension.

Despite these advancements, Telegram's founder and CEO, Pavel Durov, is under investigation in France. French prosecutors have accused Durov of facilitating a platform that enables illicit transactions, which could result in up to 10 years of prison time for him. The ongoing investigation highlights the challenges and scrutiny faced by platforms involved in cryptocurrency transactions.
