What is $APT ?
Aptos is a Layer 1 Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain founded by Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, former employees of Meta. It employs the Move smart contract programming language, developed independently by Meta's Diem blockchain engineers. The blockchain aims to facilitate mainstream adoption of web3 and empower DApps to address real-world problems. With a theoretical transaction throughput exceeding 150,000 transactions per second (tps) through parallel execution, Aptos distinguishes itself from Ethereum's mainnet, which achieves around 12 to 15 tps. This high throughput is enabled by a parallel execution engine (Block-STM) and a Byzantine fault-tolerant PoS consensus mechanism. Unlike most blockchains that process transactions sequentially, Aptos processes transactions simultaneously, minimizing delays caused by failed transactions or network congestion. The use of Move provides advantages over Solidity, including easily verifiable blockchain commands, modular design, and private key modification. Additionally, Aptos offers upgradeability, configurability, and horizontal throughput scalability through natively-implemented sharding, enhancing the user experience and enabling new use cases.
