Finland's National Bureau of Investigation has tracked anonymous Monero transactions.
Journalists of MTV Crime Reporters section of MTV Uutiset channel reported with reference to the statement of regional prosecutor Pasi Vainio that KRP experts managed to trace transactions using XMR, as well as identify its final recipient. Monero was previously considered an "untraceable cryptocurrency".
Marco Leposena, head of the KRP investigation team, commented that the task of identifying the intruder was not easy, as transfers of funds in the Monero blockchain are not public, and the built-in features are designed to make tracking as difficult as possible.
However, KRP's experts successfully met the challenge. Leposena declined to provide journalists with specific details of the investigation, explaining that this information is classified as it relates to the technical methods of the police.
