Coinspeaker Sui Foundation Appoints Christian Thompson as New Managing Director

Sui Foundation, dedicated to the scalability-centered Sui Network, has appointed Christian Thompson as its new Managing Director, succeeding Dr. Greg Siourounis, who has served in the role since the Foundation’s inception in 2023.

The appointment elevates Thompson from his previous position as Meta’s Deputy Chief Information Security Officer to lead the Sui Foundation.

Sui Foundation in a New Dispensation

The appointment of Thompson comes at a defining moment for Sui, which has established itself as a leading Layer-1 blockchain with over $1.5 billion in Total Value Locked. Following the Foundation’s remarkable achievements in 2024, Thompson’s leadership is expected to usher in a new phase of growth and innovation for the ecosystem.

As the Managing Director of the Sui Foundation, Thompson is responsible for advancing the organization’s mission from the Cayman Islands. He will tap into the broad expertise gained from working across tech, finance, and blockchain to build engagement among enthusiasts, developers, and Sui’s growing global community.

As a founder, Thompson worked with Knowledge Preserve and OnDetail and served nearly a decade in various law enforcement roles. He also founded The Capital Quorum and co-founded The Capitola Public Safety and Community Service Foundation.

Before coming to Sui, he served as the Deputy CISO at Meta and as an early member of the Libra/Diem project.

Acknowledging the performance of Sui in such a short time, Thompson said, “In less than two years, due to its scalable and accessible design, Sui has grown into a top destination for millions of crypto users.”

He also highlighted how he plans “to help the Sui Foundation empower this next wave of builders. I look forward to engaging developers, growing the community, and showcasing Sui as the gateway to the world’s digital future.”

Down Memory Lane With Sui

Sui launched its mainnet in May 2023, making the SUI token accessible on top exchanges like Binance, Bybit, KuCoin, and OKX.

The Mysten Labs team behind the development of the protocol equipped it to deliver unmatched speed, scalability, and efficiency. Regarding throughputs, the developers set Sui to outshine Solana (SOL), which generally boasts a high throughput and transaction speed.

The Sui ecosystem has recorded several other achievements in the last eighteen months, including partnerships. Last week, Sui collaborated with Ant Digital and ZAN to tokenize green and innovative assets.

This move advances its mission to make sustainable investments globally accessible. The partnership leverages Ant Digital’s expertise and ZAN’s web3 tools to create a robust ecosystem for tokenizing real-world assets on Sui.

A few months before, Sui deployed Mysticeti, an innovative protocol that cuts consensus latency to an astonishing 390 milliseconds. This product launched on the Sui mainnet after a successful run on the testnet.

Among its many benefits, Mysticeti achieves unprecedented transaction speeds, extending the network’s impressive low latency performance across all transaction types.

With Thompson Managing the Foundation, more of such achievement is set to be recorded.
