Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, a layer-1 blockchain, recently ate a banana he bought for $6.24 million at a Sotheby’s auction in New York. The banana was part of Maurizio Cattelan’s 2019 conceptual artwork, “Comedian.” Sun gathered journalists at the Peninsula hotel in Hong Kong to discuss the “iconic” artwork, before consuming the banana.
He commented that it was much better than other bananas. The banana was regularly replaced as per instructions provided with the artwork certificate of authenticity. Sun compared conceptual art to cryptocurrency and highlighted two Solana meme coins inspired by the artwork. The banana-themed artwork has gained popularity, with one meme coin climbing 10% to a market cap of $1.7 million and the other jumping 9.5% to a market cap of $138 million.
In addition, Sun recently announced a $30 million investment in the Trump-family backed World Liberty Financial (WLFI) project, through the purchase of the WLFI governance token.
