Morocco is gearing up to legalize cryptocurrencies, reversing its 2017 ban. The central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib, has drafted a law to regulate digital assets, now under review. Governor Abdellatif Jouahri revealed this move as part of efforts to align with global trends in crypto regulation. The country is also exploring a central bank digital currency (CBDC) to boost financial inclusion. This shift comes amid rising global interest in crypto regulations, with the EU's MiCA framework and the UK's plans for crypto oversight by 2026 setting the stage for a regulated digital asset future.
