“The Great BitCorn Giveaway 🌽 ”
Meet Tim, an aspiring scammer who thought he could strike it rich in crypto. Tim had read all about Bitcoin and how some people were making a fortune. So, he came up with a “brilliant” plan. He set up a fake website called “BitCorn” (yes, he was convinced the name was clever) and promised people they could double their Bitcoin instantly. His tagline? “Plant your BitCorn today, and watch it grow!”
Tim started spamming everyone on social media: “Send me one Bitcoin, and I’ll send back two! Instant farm-grown profits!”
For a few days, it was crickets. Then one day, he got his first response. A guy named Steve sent over a single satoshi (the smallest unit of Bitcoin) with a message: “I’m planting my BitCorn. Let’s see it grow.”
Tim laughed, thinking it was some joke. But then, more tiny transactions started pouring in – satoshis, one at a time. His wallet was filling up with the equivalent of pennies. Frustrated, Tim decided he would just refund them to avoid the spam.
But there was a twist. While trying to send the satoshis back, Tim accidentally sent all the Bitcoin he’d collected back to each individual, over and over. He was basically farming his own BitCorn for everyone else! By the end, he had given away the small amount of Bitcoin he’d initially collected and ended up in the negative, even owing transaction fees.
Tim became a meme on crypto forums, and BitCorn became an internet joke. People laughed about the scammer who accidentally made everyone else rich, a small fortune of satoshis at a time.
