**US Judge Greenlights Election Betting on Kalshi**
In a landmark decision, a US judge has ruled in favor of predictions market Kalshi, allowing the platform to offer derivatives for betting on the upcoming US election in November. This ruling overturns a previous order by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which had argued that such betting could compromise election integrity and is illegal in some states.
Kalshi's CEO, Tarek Mansour, hailed the decision as a historic moment, noting that election markets are now legal in the US for the first time in a century. Jake Chervinsky of Variant Fund called it a "HUGE win" but urged caution until the judicial opinion is fully reviewed.
Crypto fund 1confirmation's founder, Nick Tomaino, also praised the ruling, saying it supports the idea that having "skin in the game" is a core American value.
The CFTC has the option to appeal the decision. This comes as Kalshi recently launched prediction contracts for Bitcoin and Ether price movements, and amid calls from Gemini to withdraw a proposed regulation that would ban event contracts on decentralized prediction markets.
