In an announcement on Thursday evening, Major League Soccer side, Inter Miami unveiled Polkadot as its official global training kit partner. As part of the deal, the MLS side’s first team training kit will feature the Polkadot logo. The players and technical staff will sport the Polkadot-branded training tops during all official team training sessions including pre-match warm-ups, Inter Miami said in a statement.
On the other hand, Polkadot will create fan activation and engagement through an interactive fan zone, branding at the training centre and dynamic digital campaigns.
This announcement comes just weeks after details about Polkadot’s marketing spend emerged in July.
In the first half of 2024, Polkadot’s treasury report revealed a total expenditure of $87 million, with a significant portion — $37 million (~42%) allocated to marketing. Of the $37 million, $21 million was assigned to sponsorships and a further $10 million to marketing and PR, while $4 million went to digital advertising.
But such spending did not go unnoticed with the community raising concerns amid high spending and low returns, with questions particularly directed at the effectiveness of influencer marketing, according to Upptic.
Founded in 2020 by Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood, Polkadot’s strategy for creating awareness takes a new approach through its partnership with Inter Miami.
