According to BlockBeats, social media platform X announced in a brief note to employees on Thursday that its long-term office and global headquarters in San Francisco will close on Friday, September 13. Twitter took over the 1 million square foot building in 2012, but after Elon Musk became the owner of Twitter two years ago, he laid off thousands of employees, auctioned off most of the furniture, and removed the large Twitter sign from the building's exterior. Since then, several floors of the building have remained effectively closed.

Since early August, when CEO Linda Yaccarino mentioned in an email that the San Francisco office would be closed, the company has not provided any further updates to employees. San Francisco employees will be relocated to offices in San Jose or Palo Alto. X's headquarters is expected to move to Texas, which is also home to other Musk companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, and Boring Co.
