• Kamala Harris’ campaign brings on David Plouffe, a former Obama adviser and Binance consultant, signalling a strategic shift.

  • Plouffe's involvement in Harris' campaign may influence the Democratic stance on crypto ahead of the 2024 election.

  • Harris hears Democrats need to adopt a crypto stance, with 52 million U.S. crypto users potentially at stake.

David Plouffe, former manager in Obama's presidential campaign and an advisor during his 2012 re-election victory has joined Harris' campaign for president as a senior  adviser. Plouffe, who worked as an adviser for Alchemy Pay and cryptocurrency exchange Binance, joins Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

Plouffe's Crypto Background and Harris's Strategic Shift

According to a  Politico report, the Harris campaign included several senior advisers, including Plouffe. A former campaign manager and senior adviser for US President Barack Obama, Plouffe made forays into crypto space after leaving the White House in 2013. He joined Binance’s Global Advisory Board in 2022 reportedly later disbanded  and was a global strategic adviser for Alchemy Pay in 2023.

In an unexpected way, the crypto realm has grown in relevance before the November US elections. In recent weeks, Harris's main opponent, former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, has spoken out in favour of digital assets.

Plouffe has shown his support through his X space account after joining Harris campaign while many Democrats called on the US vice president to consider a running mate who could potentially change public perception of the party on crypto.

Harris is expected to announce her vice presidential pick by Aug. 6, with leading contenders including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

With elections coming up, Kamala Harris' crypto ideas might change the outcome. Several Democrats have asked for the presidential candidate and the Democratic party to be pro-crypto to pacify 52 million “disgruntled” crypto users in the US.

Along with David Plouffe, Kamala Harris has added Stephanie Cutter, a Democrat communications expert, Mitch Stewart, a battleground state senior adviser, and David Binder, a public opinion research specialist, all of whom were on Barack Obama's campaign team/government.
