Big thanks to @WillemOlding1 for jumping on the first episode of the I build, therefore I am podcast! Willem (or Wollum) took the 2024 Cartesi Hackathon prize home with his project CarteZcash. Let’s dive a little deeper into his solution👇 What? CarteZcash takes @Zcash and turns it into an optimistic rollup using the Cartesi VM. How? CarteZcash uses parts of the Zebra Zcash client to create a simplified version of the protocol he called TinyCash, similar to how @Optimism uses minigeth for Ethereum state transitions. TinyCash is a modified version of Zcash with a few changes. TinyCash runs inside the Cartesi machine to create a fully functional rollup. All interactions with the L2, including deposits, transactions, and withdrawals, are managed via the Cartesi contracts. Why? The Zcash shielded pool is one of the most trusted and enduring private cryptocurrency protocols. However, obtaining and using Zcash isn’t a pleasant user experience, often necessitating the use of a centralized exchange. What if you could shield your Ethereum assets directly from the Ethereum network by depositing them into a Zcash L2? That's exactly what CarteZcash enables you to do 🔥 Check out his GitHub to learn more about CarteZcash:
