How to Manage Bitcoin UTXO?

What is Bitcoin UTXO?

Unspent transaction output (UTXO) is a technique Bitcoin uses to track balances as they move between crypto wallets. It defines where each blockchain transaction starts and finishes. Learn more about UTXO from this Academy article.

Why do I need to mark UTXO?

Certain platforms don't support BRC-20 or ARC-20 and may not be able to recognize these Bitcoin UTXOs. In addition, some valueless assets, such as transferred BRC-20 assets, require users to manually indicate their asset types before they can be used freely.

How to mark my Bitcoin UTXO?

1. Log in to your Binance app and go to [Wallets] - [Web3]. Tap [BTC] on your asset list and choose [UTXO].
2. You’ll be redirected to the [Manage UTXOs] page. Under [Waiting Mark], choose an UTXO transaction.
3. You can mark your BTC as different asset types. Choose from one of the available types, e.g., ARC-20, and tap [Mark].
Please note:
  • Once you mark the UTXO as the desired asset type, the asset’s available balance will increase and you’ll be able to send or list it.
  • You can only mark one asset type for each UTXO. The asset value of other asset types might be lost when you spend the UTXO.
4. Tap [Confirm] to proceed.
5. The UTXO will be marked as the asset type you chose. You can view the balance on the respective asset page.
Here are some examples where you’d need to mark the asset type for an UTXO manually:

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are “locked” and “unlocked” UTXOs?
On the [Manage UTXOs] page, you’ll see the respective balances for your “locked” and “unlocked” assets.
“Locked” assets are UTXOs that are marked as an inscription asset, or waiting to be marked as one. Examples include UTXOs that can be recognized as ARC-20 and/or BRC-20, or those that contain valueless BRC-20 inscriptions. You may mark them as normal BTC, ARC-20, or BRC-20, etc. However, please note that ordinal NFTs are currently not supported and would be considered BTC.
“Unlocked” assets are UTXOs that have been marked as BTC. Once you mark an UTXO as BTC, it will be added to your available balance and can be spent as normal BTC.
2. How to unlock an UTXO?
Go to [Manage UTXOs] - [Waiting Mark]. Tap on the UTXO to unlock and choose a desired asset type. Please note that you can only mark one asset type for each UTXO, and the asset value of other asset types might be lost when you spend the UTXO.
3. Can I change the asset type of an UTXO again after marking it?
Yes, you can change the asset type again if you haven’t spent the UTXO. Go to [Manage UTXOs] - [Marked] and tap on the UTXO to re-mark it.
