Mt. Gox Creditors Start Receiving Repayments, Some Being Paid Twice

On Dec.26, several posts from social media suggest that the long-defunct Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox started to send Japanese Yen-denominated repayments to users via Paypal. This is after ten years the funds become locked on the exchange since 2014.

Several users claimed they have received repayments and shared the screenshots of the email that contained the PayPal receipt of payment.

Several users also claimed they have received double payments and said Mt. Gox acknowledged the error through email and demanded the second payment be returned.

In the email, Mt.Gox clarified:" Due to a system issue, the transfer of money to you was inadvertently made twice. Please note that you are not authorized to receive the second transfer and are legally obligated to return the above amount to the Rehabilitation Trustee."

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has initiated a lawsuit against cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, accusing the exchange of violating securities laws. According to the SEC, Kraken has allegedly been operating as a broker, dealer, exchange, and clearing agency without registering with the SEC.

The SEC claims that Kraken's actions have exposed investors to significant risks, while generating billions of dollars in fees and trading revenue without complying with the requirements of U.S. securities laws. The lawsuit also alleges that Kraken's business practices, internal controls, and record keeping have introduced additional risks to investors, which would be prohibited for any properly registered securities intermediary.

In response, the SEC is seeking a judgement that permanently prohibits the defendants from violating securities laws and requests the disgorgement of ill-gotten gains. Additionally, the SEC aims to halt Kraken from operating as an unregistered exchange, broker, dealer, or clearing agency.

Solana's Largest DEX Aggregator Jupiter Announced 4 Billion Token Airdrop

Reported by The Block, Solana's largest decentralized exchange aggregator, Jupiter, has unveiled a retrospective token airdrop program aimed at rewarding its early users. 

As part of a community-centric initiative, this airdrop will see the distribution of four billion (40%) of Jupiter's total 10 billion tokens across four phases. Commencing next week, the initial phase will release one billion Jupiter tokens to users who have conducted a minimum of $1,000 in swap volume on the protocol. The eligibility list encompasses 955,000 wallets identified in a snapshot taken on November 2. 

The airdrop incorporates various reward tiers based on the volume of user swaps. The team has clarified that upcoming airdrop rounds will focus on rewarding new users.

The official airdrop allocation website will go live next week, enabling everyone to verify their allocation amount and other pertinent details.

The dYdX chain, built on Cosmos, has entered its beta mainnet phase, allowing active trading across 33 perpetual markets with up to 20x leverage. During this stage, no trading rewards will be distributed, but validators and stakers will accumulate trading fees. The transition to full trading with rewards depends on the chain's stability, determined by governance votes. Additionally, dYdX is partnering with Circle and Noble chain, leveraging Circle's Cross Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to facilitate easy, secure transfers of USDC collateral from other chains to dYdX.
