Wirex has described Liquity, recalling that it is a decentralized lending protocol that allows users to obtain interest-free loans by leveraging Ether as collateral.Â
Specifically, LUSD is the stablecoin pegged to the US dollar and backed solely by Ethereum, and it is the cryptocurrency used for issuing loans. The minimum required collateral ratio for Liquity loans is 110%.Â
The protocol has reached an important milestone, marking 1,000 days since the distribution of its smart contracts on the Ethereum mainnet. In these 1000 days, the protocol has issued loans for over $4.7 billion and currently has a TVL of $700 million.
Not only that, Liquity loans are also backed by a Stability Pool containing LUSD and other borrowers who collectively act as lenders of last resort.
LUSD and LQTY are tokens of the DeFi (Decentralized Finance) with the Liquity protocol, which is non-custodial, immutable, and without governance.
The launch of the Dual-Mode crypto card
It was October 2023, when Wirex launched its new Dual-Mode crypto card that combines traditional finance (fiat currencies and stablecoins) with DeFi protocols.Â
In practice, users can choose whether to use the same Wirex card in âdebitâ mode, that is, like a normal debit card, or in âcreditâ mode, and take advantage of Decentralized Finance (or DeFi) protocols.Â
Specifically, the âcreditâ functionality has been designed to use cryptocurrencies as collateral, through a collateralized debt position (CDP). This is a way for users to leverage DeFi for decentralized loans, in order to preserve the appreciation of their assets.Â

Terraform Labsâ Do Kwon loses appeal in Montenegro passport fraud case
Do Kwon faces criminal charges elsewhereDo Kwon, the founder and former CEO of Terraform Labs, lost an appeal after being convicted of passport fraud, a Montenegro court ordered on Nov. 16.In June, Kwon and fellow Terra associate Han Chang-joon were convicted of falsifying passport documents by the Basic Court in Podgorica, Montenegroâs capital city. Both defendants were sentenced to four months in prison at that time.The defendants appealed the charges soon after. However, in its current statement, the High Court in Podgorica reaffirmed the basic courtâs earlier conviction and sentence. It said that the court âcorrectly and completely determined the factual situation.â It also said that the basic court rightly applied Montenegroâs criminal code and took all circumstances into account in its choice of sanctions and in determining their extent.The court added that the behavior of the two individuals and the fact that the court did not determine whether the two used the falsified travel documents were both taken into account.
