Worldcoin Rebrands as “World,” Introduces “Faster Orb” for Identity Verification According to CoinDesk, Sam Altman’s Worldcoin project has adopted the name “World” and launched an upgraded version of its iris scanning device, the “Orb.” This new version, known as Orb 2.0, has been optimized to be faster and more efficient, with improved chips and an open-source design, making it easier to build and operate. The project’s goal remains to create a global identity verification system that allows users to anonymously prove their humanity online. At a recent event, Sam Altman, along with co-founder Alex Blania and other World employees, detailed their plans for the expansion of the Orb. Chief designer Rich Heley highlighted the need to manufacture about 1,000 additional Orbs, which will be distributed in various locations, including stores in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, coffee shops, and even home deliveries through an app. In addition to Orbs, World is looking to accelerate the adoption of its ID system by incorporating government IDs. While this method does not verify users’ humanity as accurately as Orb, CISO Adiran Ludwig mentioned that additional controls will be included to prevent the use of deepfakes. A new feature called “World ID Deep Faces” will also be introduced, which will allow users to verify that the people they interact with online are not deepfakes, as long as they have a World ID. Shortly after the introduction of these developments, the WLD token suffered a 5% drop.

The value of the WLD token reached its all-time high in March 2024, priced at €11.11, and is expected to continue to rise, especially with the growing adoption of the technology and AI-related upgrades.
