The creator of Bitcoin (BTC) designed it to limit the total network supply to 21 million BTC. To avoid inflation due to overmining, he added a piece of code so that after every 210,000 mining blocks, the Bitcoin reward for miners would be halved. This algorithm is called Bitcoin Halving or "halving".

On average, Bitcoin Halving will take place every 4 years. The Halving cycle will end until 21 million Bitcoins across the network have been "mined".

According to history, the last 3 halvings occurred in 2012, 2016 and 2020. Based on current network speeds, the "halving" event is expected to take place on April 20. At that time, the miner's reward after mining a new block will decrease to 3,125 BTC. The algorithm will continue until the total number of Bitcoins across the network is mined, estimated at 2140.
