Argentine Officials Met With Salvadoran Regulators to Discuss Bitcoin Adoption and Regulation

Argentine officials of the CNV, the country’s equivalent to the U.S. SEC, and Salvadoran officials of the CNAD, the National Commission for Digital Assets, met on May 23 to discuss bitcoin regulation and adoption issues. This meeting was the second between these two institutions and hints at a possible regulation agreement between the two countries.

Argentine CNV and Salvadoran CNAD Met to Talk Bitcoin-Related Subjects

Argentina is looking to expand its relationship with El Salvador, seeking to take advantage of its experience regarding bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. According to official reports, Argentine officials from the CNV, the country’s equivalent to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and officials from the Salvadoran cryptocurrency regulator, the CNAD, met to discuss issues regarding bitcoin adoption and regulation.

Roberto Silva and Patricia Boedo, president and vice president of the CNV, led the Argentine delegation. Juan Carlos Reyes, president of the CNAD, was present in the name of the Salvadoran institution.

The talks revolved around the Salvadoran experience with Bitcoin, and the digital asset’s adoption as a legal tender, including regulatory aspects. Silva highlighted the Salvadoran expertise in the cryptocurrency asset area, stating that “it has created a specific commission, the National Commission for Digital Assets (CNAD), and therefore has experience that is very valuable for the CNV at this time.”

Furthermore, Silva stressed that the institution was examining the possibility of establishing collaboration agreements with El Salvador regarding crypto and bitcoin. Boedo, who had been participating in key regulation meetings in El Salvador before, declared that it was “essential” to “continue strengthening ties with a Republic that is a pioneer in the subject, and that has vast experience in the subject.”

Reyes recognized Argentina was a pioneer in digital assets technology, and understood that the CNV “wants to work with the industry efficiently and create appropriate regulation.” This is not the first time these two institutions met: Boedo traveled to El Salvador in March to discuss regulation issues.
