Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has recently made an appeal to the public in order to further explore open-source development of artificial intelligence while also calling for increased privacy and network redesigns. In a recent tweet, Buterin said that “there need to be more privacy-preserving solutions along with work towards better decentralization”. The tweet went on to call for “more investment in open source AI technology without infringing on citizen’s right to privacy”.

Buterin followed up this tweet by suggesting that decentralized networks should be redesigned as well in order to make them more secure and reliable. He stated that such changes would require “a new consensus algorithm altogether in order to ensure the security of the distributed application layer”. Many view this as a positive step forward for the blockchain community as it demonstrates an awareness of the need for better privacy protection.
