On May 5, the Biden administration of the United States released the "U.S. Government National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technologies" on May 4. The document reiterated the importance of standards to the United States and will update the United States' rules-based standards-setting approach.
The Biden administration stated that the United States will prioritize the development of standards for a subset of CET that is critical to U.S. competitiveness and national security, including areas such as: 1. Communications and network technology; 2. Semiconductors and microelectronics; 3. Artificial intelligence Intelligence and machine learning; 4. Biotechnology; 5. Positioning, navigation and timing services; 6. Digital identity infrastructure and distributed ledger technology; 7. Clean energy production and storage; 8. Quantum information technology.
