According to Wu, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said at a Senate Banking Committee hearing that the Treasury Department could use more power to combat suspected use of cryptocurrencies by terrorist organizations. Yellen said that we do have many powers to take action, but some loopholes in the power have been found, and a series of suggestions on how to strengthen the power of the Treasury Department have been made. Senator Mark Warner asked Yellen if she thought the Terrorist Financing Prevention Act was necessary. Yellen responded that she supported the goals of the bill, which would help give us the power to better enable the Treasury Department to respond to very significant threats.
