According to Blockworks, Crypto think tank Coin Center announced senior management changes, with Executive Director Jerry Brito and Senior Policy Advisor Robin Weisman leaving at the end of the year. Both will remain on the board of directors. Brito and Weisman have held their respective positions since Coin Center was founded in 2014. Research Director Peter Van Valkenburgh will take over as Executive Director on January 1, and current Policy Advisor Landon Zinda will become Policy Director.
Coin Center recently won an appeal to reopen its 2022 lawsuit against the Treasury Department and the IRS. The lawsuit involved a tax code amendment that would include "digital assets" in the definition of cash and require reporting of transactions over $10,000. Coin Center initially argued that the amendment was unconstitutional, but the appeals court ruled in August that some of its arguments had legal merit.
Coin Center also filed a letter of support in support of Tornado Cash and its founders in the U.S. government’s lawsuit against the two mixing service founders. Previously, Coin Center filed a lawsuit against the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control to oppose its sanctions on Tornado Cash, but the court ruled in 2023 that the government had the right to put Tornado Cash on the sanctions list.
