Eve Online developer CCP Games officially announced its upcoming massively multiplayer online survival game Eve Frontier on September 12, Cointelegraph reported.
The game will uniquely integrate blockchain technology, allowing players to create self-sufficient economies within the game with a built-in digital-to-fiat bridge.
CCP Games says players can create custom currencies, build marketplaces, and trade assets, services, and reputation in an open environment.
CCP Games CEO Hilmar Pétursson said Eve Frontier redefines the survival genre by combining intense space survival gameplay with the limitless potential of a player-driven persistent sandbox universe.
Players will be able to establish rules within their own spaces through internal coding, including which currencies are accepted and which services are provided.
Eve Frontier's core gameplay revolves around resource acquisition and the expansion of the player's empire, and its most notable feature may be its player-controlled economy.
The game is designed to be blockchain-backed, allowing players to decide how currency is created, valued, and acquired, potentially becoming a valuable social experiment.
Eve Online is the original title in the Eve universe, which has a history of large-scale player-coordinated events, such as multi-year wars involving tens of thousands of players. Extending player-driven economies to the real world through blockchain could result in in-game currencies that are directly pegged to real-world value.
