According to ChainCatcher, Russia’s cryptocurrency mining bill proposes to ban mining activities in “energy-poor” areas, and the proposed bill is expected to be passed in August.
Representatives of the Russian cryptocurrency mining industry have not yet agreed to some of the bill’s provisions. The Industrial Mining Association sent a letter to the State Duma, asking for the exclusion of these decisions, arguing that they pose risks to mining investors.
The association recommends that if the provision is adopted into law, the rules should describe the approval process for bans and include compensation for affected investors.
Russia's Energy Ministry deemed this acceptable, but the decision was left to the State Duma. Bill co-author Anton Gorelkin said the conditions for the ban should be determined through discussions with industry representatives.
