According to Bloomberg, a new type of information storage on Ethereum, "blobs" (binary large objects), has recently been filled with large amounts of random data such as images, text and audio. The phenomenon is similar to the plot of the classic 1958 movie. Blobs were introduced in the Ethereum network upgrade in March this year, originally intended to reduce the cost of blockchain for commercial use. However, this phenomenon, now known as "blobscriptions", has been called graffiti or garbage by critics, pushing up storage prices for everyone. Tom Lehman and Michael Hirsch promoted the development of blobscriptions by creating a website called BlobScriptions.io, which allows anyone to easily burn data to blobs. Although the commercial value is not yet clear, many people may operate through robots, betting that some of these works will appreciate in value. Although blobs only last about 18 days on Ethereum, services like Ethscriptions can keep data alive for longer. Many Ethereum insiders expect that the dominance of blobscriptions will be short-lived.
