According to PANews, authorities in Dalian, China, have issued a risk warning against illegal fundraising activities carried out under the guise of virtual currency, metaverse, and wealth sharing. The warning was jointly released by seven departments, including the Dalian Illegal Fundraising Leading Group Office, Dalian Public Security Bureau, Dalian Market Supervision Administration, People's Bank of China Dalian Branch, National Financial Supervision Administration Dalian Regulatory Bureau, Dalian Securities Regulatory Bureau, and Dalian Communications Administration.

The authorities stated that some criminals have been using terms like virtual currency and metaverse to promote wealth-sharing business opportunities. They have been organizing online WeChat groups and holding offline national lecture tours to lure investors into downloading illegal apps and purchasing their self-created illegal virtual currencies. These activities are suspected of being illegal fundraising, fraud, and other criminal activities, seriously infringing on the property safety of the people and disrupting the order of economic and financial activities.
