According to CoinDesk, people were surprised this week when Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren appeared to sign an official order to raise a flag in honor of Satoshi Nakamoto over the U.S. Capitol. However, upon closer inspection, the event seemed to be just a clever stunt planned by Bitcoin supporters.
While some credulous commentators celebrated Warren’s “endorsement,” social media sleuths were quick to point out that anyone can request a flag be flown over the U.S. Capitol by filling out a form on the senator’s website for a fee, and Warren doesn’t appear to have suddenly changed her tune on Bitcoin.
Warren pushed for the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act last year, which aims to restrict financial institutions from trading in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
