According to Decrypt: On Tuesday, animoca Brands’s subsidiary Darewise Entertainment announced it had raised $3.5 million in a token pre-sale for its upcoming "Life Beyond" project. This venture exemplifies the ongoing seriousness and vitality of metaverse development, with key investors such as Gamefi Ventures and Animoca Ventures putting their weight behind these ambitions.
"Life Beyond” is designed to be an open-world sci-fi game, in which players strive to create a new society powered by NFTs and a tokenized digital economy. The game's associated Darewise token is planned to launch in early 2023; this token represents a cooperative project with Horizon Labs, the creators of the Ethereum-based ApeCoin (APE) token.
Benjamin Charbit, CEO of Darewise Entertainment, highlighted the importance of the investment community’s belief in their project, and its embodiment of gaming and Web3 culture. He viewed this backing as a key endorsement of building within the Bitcoin ecosystem.
Launching in 2018, Darewise Entertainment intends to center its metaverse ecosystem around Bitcoin Ordinals, akin to NFTs, causing a major sensation in the crypto world earlier this year. Bitcoin Ordinals allows for the inscription of images, text, and even video games onto the Bitcoin blockchain, leading to the creation of BRC-20 tokens.
The company’s forward plans for its metaverse envisage a blend of gaming, real-world experiences, brand integrations, and more, with the Darewise token serving as the universe’s native currency. Enthusiasts see Bitcoin as an ideal foundation for open-world gaming and digital collectibles, despite it not being the most obvious blockchain choice for these activities.
James Lim, Blocore founder, stated that their investment in Darewise and "Life Beyond" was sparked by the venture's innovative inteegration of the Bitcoin ecosystem with an immersive digital exploration and connectivity experience. Darewise Entertainment is a subsidiary of the highly-valued software firm Animoca Brands, which is behind the globally renown Ethereum-based open-world game "The Sandbox".
