According to Planet Daily, zkSync co-founder Alex G proposed a new governance solution, using L1 Fork as the final court to establish a chain court hierarchical system similar to the real-world judicial institution and provide it with a standard ERC interface. Each protocol has its own governance and defines normal and emergency upgrade mechanisms. The protocol must also designate a special contract as an appeal instance. For emergency upgrades, there must be an appeal period during which anyone can challenge the higher court, and they must pay a predetermined bail. The court can cancel the emergency upgrade, and different courts will have different members, prices and reputations in a completely decentralized manner. Each court must also designate a higher court that can appeal any decision until it reaches the Ethereum Supreme Court. The decision of this smart contract can only be determined by a soft fork of L1. Alex G said that the most important function of such a system is to protect the protocol from interference from external political factors, which will serve as a powerful deterrent mechanism, and zkSync is very happy to fund such research.
