According to Foresight News, the South Korean National Assembly's Ethics Special Committee has rejected a disciplinary case to expel independent lawmaker Kim Nam-guk over allegations of large-scale virtual asset trading. Previously, the South Korean Ethics Special Committee's Moral Review Advisory Committee had recommended Kim Nam-guk's expulsion. Foresight News previously reported that on May 7, 2023, according to the Chosun Ilbo, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutor's Office was investigating South Korean Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Nam-guk for alleged abnormal trading of 8 billion WEMIX tokens (approximately $4.55 million). In mid-May, a member of the Seoul People's Regime Committee submitted a complaint to the prosecutor's office, accusing Kim Nam-guk of violating the Political Funds Act, the Capital Market Act, and accepting bribes.
