According to Cointelegraph: DoorDash, a food delivery service platform, is incorporating AI technology to assist their restaurant clients, enabling customers to place their orders with AI-powered bots instead of busy staff members. The AI-powered voice ordering system will be available to select operators and will handle customer phone calls. DoorDash's 2023 Restaurant Online Ordering Trends report showed that 20% of customers prefer ordering food via phone, but up to 50% of these calls go unanswered, resulting in significant losses for restaurants. Rajat Shroff, DoorDash's head of product and design, stated that the company will use a combination of AI and human operators to ensure all customer calls are answered promptly, especially during peak times. The AI system will also offer a personalized customer experience by answering calls in multiple languages. The report found that 34% of respondents start their food ordering process on a third-party app like DoorDash or UberEats, more than double the 15% in 2021. Additionally, the AI-enhanced ordering system will provide customers with potential meal recommendations, which DoorDash claims will boost overall sales for restaurants.
