Foresight News reported that the lawsuit by IT engineer James Howells from Newport, Wales, seeking to retrieve a Bitcoin hard drive was dismissed by a judge. The hard drive contains over 8,000 Bitcoins mined in 2009, currently worth approximately $770 million, which was accidentally thrown into a landfill in 2013. Judge Keyser of the Welsh Circuit Commercial Court stated that the case 'has no substantial chance of success.' Since 2013, Howells has repeatedly requested permission from the Newport City Council to enter the landfill for a search, promising to share the Bitcoins if the hard drive is found, but has been denied due to environmental permit issues.
