The Nagel Committee, an advisory body to the Israeli government, believes that a war between this country and Turkey could break out as Ankara seeks to increase its influence in the region.
According to an assessment released by the Nagel Committee, a body established by the Israeli government to provide recommendations on defense and security strategy, on January 7, it published a report recommending that the country prepare for the risk of direct conflict with Turkey.
In the recommendation submitted to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Defense Minister Katz, and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, the Nagel Committee stated that Turkey's "ambition to restore Ottoman influence" could escalate tensions with Israel and risk escalating into conflict.

The committee's report also highlights the risk that armed factions in Syria may lean towards Turkey, potentially creating a new latent threat to Israel's security.

The assessment comes amid Turkey's increasingly assertive policies towards the region, which could even conflict with Israel's interests, a country that is also seeking to increase its influence in Syria following the coup in that country.
