AI company Anthropic is in talks to raise $2 billion, a deal that could value the company at around $60 billion.

According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Lightspeed Venture Partners is leading this new funding round, aimed at supporting Anthropic – a formidable competitor to OpenAI. In December 2023, Anthropic was valued at $18 billion, indicating that the company's value may have increased by over 233% in just 12 months.

In 2023 and 2024, two tech giants, Amazon and Google, invested billions of dollars into Anthropic, strengthening the company's position in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Founded in 2021 by a group of former OpenAI members, Anthropic quickly established its position by publicly launching a large language model (LLM) named Claude in 2023. Claude is seen as a direct competitor to ChatGPT – OpenAI's pioneering AI product launched in 2022.

Will AI replace humans?

In recent years, the AI sector has attracted special attention as many predict that this technology could render some professions obsolete. One of the main goals of AI companies is to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) systems.

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, predicts that AI could surpass human capabilities as early as 2026, based on the current pace of technological development. In a New Year's message in 2025, Sam Altman – CEO of OpenAI – also expressed a similar view, stating that AI systems could 'join the workforce' and 'significantly change business productivity' within the next 12 months.
