On January 6, local time in the U.S., Congress counted the electoral votes and officially confirmed former President and Republican presidential candidate Trump as president. What new changes will the inauguration of the first "crypto president" in history bring to the cryptocurrency industry? This has become a topic of interest for many. To prepare for the upcoming inauguration on January 20, MetaEra has launched a special feature on the "Trump Inauguration," which will provide comprehensive coverage of the 47th presidential inauguration in the United States. This article serves as the first piece in this special feature, showcasing the culture of presidential elections and inaugurations in the U.S., as well as the general process of this inauguration.

The United States operates under a presidential cabinet system, electing a president every four years, who may serve a maximum of two terms. Whenever a new president is elected, an inauguration ceremony is held. This is a significant celebration in American political life. The presidential inauguration marks the beginning of a new presidential term. In fact, the only requirement specified in the U.S. Constitution for the inauguration ceremony is that the new president must take an oath before assuming office. However, over time, the traditional elements of the inauguration ceremony have gradually expanded, evolving from a simple oath-taking ceremony into a full day of events including parades, speeches, and balls.

The 2024 U.S. presidential election is the 60th (47th) presidential election in American history, using the Electoral College system, where a candidate must obtain 270 out of 538 electoral votes (100 from senators, 435 from representatives, and 3 from Washington D.C.) to be elected president. The general election will be held on November 5, 2024, with the elected president and vice president taking office on January 20, 2025.

On November 5, 2024, the Republican Party gained 51 seats in the Senate and won control. In the early hours of November 6, Republican presidential candidate Trump announced his victory in the 2024 presidential election.

The newly elected 47th president of the United States, Donald Trump, was born on June 14, 1946, in New York, USA, with ancestral roots in Bavaria, Germany. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a German-American politician, entrepreneur, real estate developer, and television personality, having served as the 45th president of the United States (from January 20, 2017, to January 20, 2021). Trump officially accepted the Republican presidential nomination in July 2024.

According to past practices, the inauguration ceremony of the 47th president of the United States will be held on January 20, 2025 (during the day) at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

First is the morning prayer ceremony. The elected president will attend a church service, a tradition that has been in place since President Franklin D. Roosevelt's inauguration in 1933.

After the ceremony, the outgoing president will accompany the elected president to Capitol Hill to attend the inauguration and take the oath of office. Following this, the vice president and president will successively take their oaths of office. The president's oath-taking ceremony is usually presided over by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Finally, there is a parade to celebrate the presidential inauguration. After the luncheon, the presidential motorcade will travel along Pennsylvania Avenue, accompanied by the military honor guard, civilian groups, military bands, and various floats. The president, vice president, and guests will ascend to the viewing platform in front of the White House to watch the parade, which is prepared by the Presidential Inaugural Committee of the Joint Task Force of the U.S. Armed Forces.

At the inauguration ceremony, the elected president of the United States will recite the oath.

Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution states the presidential oath of office as follows: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Traditionally, the elected president places their hand on the Bible while reciting the oath, but this is not mandatory. Theodore Roosevelt did not use a Bible when he took his oath in 1901.

In addition to the president reciting the oath, the elected vice president and other federal officials will also recite the oath, which is as follows: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same. I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion. I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

The entire inauguration ceremony will begin with security checks at 6 AM on the 20th, at which time tens of thousands of people will gather at Washington Square, including foreign delegations and their families, representatives from various states, business and political leaders, and invited important guests.

In the evening, the presidential inauguration ball will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. It should be noted that during the inauguration, various themed balls will be held, and the elected president and first lady will not attend all of them; they will only select a few important balls to participate in.

The ball has dress requirements for both men and women. Men are required to wear black ties and tailcoats, and wearing boots is encouraged. Women are required to wear long gowns or cocktail dresses.

The ball will invite prominent figures from all walks of life. Notable guests at the 2017 inauguration ball included:

The 69th U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Texas' 48th Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Attorney General Ken Paxton, Senators Cornyn and Cruz, members of the Texas congressional delegation, actor Jon Voight, Duck Commander founder Willie Robertson, and members of the elected president Trump's family, including Donald Trump Jr.

From the attendees of the previous ball, it is clear that Trump's inauguration ball will also feature important figures.

It is important to note that during this Trump inauguration, the American flag will be flown at half-staff in memory of the late former President Jimmy Carter. This will be the "first time" in a presidential inauguration that the flag is flown at half-staff due to the passing of another president. Trump also expressed his dissatisfaction with this action on social media.

The articles in this special feature will also predict the policies that Trump will implement after taking office, as well as explore the impacts on the cryptocurrency industry. Please continue to follow this special feature.
