Will AI assistants dethrone memecoins?
According to San Francisco-based crypto venture capital fund Dragonfly Capital, the capital that flowed into memecoins last year will shift to AI assistants in 2025.
Dragonfly Capital’s managing partner Haseeb Qureshi shared the following on his X (formerly Twitter) account on New Year’s Day: “Memecoins will continue to lose market share to AI assistants. I see this process as a transition from financial nihilism to extreme optimism.”
Qureshi said that the “AI assistant craze” will likely continue through 2025, but not forever. Qureshi argued that people will lose interest in social media chatbots as more advanced AI products are released, adding: “It will eventually disappear. It’s not a long-term disaster for AI, but the crypto Twitter community will be more interested in it because it’s more social.”
As is known, AI assistants are one of the latest trends in the crypto sector. AI assistants such as Aixbt analyze market data and make predictions for crypto investors.
According to Coinmarketcap data, the trading volume of memecoins in the crypto market decreased by almost 21.5 percent in the last 24 hours, while the trading volume of AI and other related tokens increased by 7.95 percent.
In line with the above data, the market value of AI tokens increased by 1.66 percent in the last 30 days, while the total market value of memecoins decreased by 17.7 percent in the same period.
Stating that the market's shift towards AI assistants opens the door to cyber risks in this area, Qureshi said: “Current AI assistants can be easily manipulated to use crazy expressions that damage their brands or install spyware to steal all resources.”
