Cryptocurrency hacks and scams caused losses of up to $29 million in December, the lowest in 2024

Both CertiK and PeckShield shared data showing that December had the lowest cryptocurrency losses of the year 2024.

Losses from scams, exploits, and cryptocurrency attacks gradually decreased in the final months of 2024, with December recording the smallest amount of stolen funds.

Blockchain security company CertiK stated in a post on December 31 on X that there was $28.6 million in losses due to exploits, attacks, and scams in December, compared to $63.8 million in November and $115.8 million in October.

According to the company, exploits accounted for the majority of the losses, with $26.7 million being stolen by attackers in December.

The most significant incident was the $2.1 million exploit of the decentralized finance (DeFi) platform GemPad, in which the attacker stole assets by exploiting a vulnerability in the project's smart contract.
