Ten regions will completely ban cryptocurrency mining from January 1, while three other regions will implement partial bans. This government decree was passed on December 23, stipulating a comprehensive ban on mining from January 2025 to March 2031. In the other three regions, partial restrictions on mining will apply during each heating season before 2031 (from November 15 each year to March 15 of the following year, excluding the first year when the ban takes effect on January 1, 2025).

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated at the end of December that the number of regions banning cryptocurrency mining could increase if requests are received from governors. The authorities of the Republic of Khakassia have already asked the Ministry of Energy to restrict mining activities in the region.
