On December 30, local time, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that President-elect Trump is liable for defamation against writer Carroll after committing sexual assault, and must pay $5 million in damages.

Reports state that the jury did not find Trump guilty of rape, but they awarded writer Carroll $2.02 million for being sexually assaulted and $2.98 million for defamation. It is reported that in January of this year, another federal jury ordered Trump to pay Carroll $83.3 million in damages on the grounds that Trump made public statements in 2019 that demeaned Carroll and denied her allegations of sexual assault against Trump.
