Hello everyone! 👋
Recently, a new scam technique has emerged in the cryptocurrency field, where hackers use fake job postings to lure job seekers into downloading malicious software to steal their crypto assets. This new type of scam is highly covert and poses significant risks, warranting our utmost vigilance.
First, hackers disguise themselves as recruiters from well-known cryptocurrency companies, using high-paying positions as bait to attract job seekers. They typically offer annual salaries ranging from $200,000 to $350,000, which undoubtedly holds immense appeal for many job seekers. This high salary temptation often leads job seekers to let their guard down, making it easier for them to fall into the trap.
Secondly, the hackers' scam techniques are becoming more covert. They no longer directly send PDFs containing malicious software or induce victims to download malicious programs disguised as video call software. Instead, they exploit technical issues that job seekers might encounter during interviews, such as microphone and camera access failures, to manipulate victims into following their instructions, thus downloading malicious software.
Even more concerning is that this malicious software can not only steal victims' cryptocurrency but also provide hackers with 'backdoor' access to the victims' devices. This means hackers can remotely control the victims' computers, steal personal information, and even carry out other malicious activities. This type of attack is applicable across various operating systems, including Mac, Windows, and Linux, with a wide range of coverage and significant harm.
Moreover, hackers begin the interview process by asking a series of lengthy interview questions to increase the appearance of legitimacy and let victims let their guard down. In the end, they ask victims to record a video in 'Willo | video interview' and use technical issues to induce victims to download malicious software. This interconnected scam technique makes it difficult for victims to defend themselves.
Overall, this new type of fake recruitment scam poses a serious threat to job seekers in the cryptocurrency field. Job seekers must remain vigilant during the job application process, carefully identify the authenticity of job postings, and avoid clicking on unknown links or downloading unverified software. At the same time, they should also enhance their security awareness to protect their personal information and crypto assets. 🛡️
