According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on December 30, Cointelegraph reported that crypto hackers have found a new way to trick victims into downloading malware that allows them to access victims' computers, steal their wallets, or cause other significant damages.
On-chain detective Tay Monahan posted on X that hackers first impersonate recruiters from well-known crypto companies, offering targets salaries between $200,000 and $350,000. This method does not lure targets into opening PDF files containing malware or downloading malware, but instead instructs victims on how to fix microphone and video access issues.
Malicious actors will first pose some lengthy interview questions to the interviewee, which need to be recorded through 'Willo | Video Interviewing'. However, victims will discover issues when granting microphone and camera access, being told they encountered caching problems, and then are provided with a 'solution' to resolve the issue.
Monahan stated that the malware provides attackers with a 'backdoor' into the victim's device and has the potential to drain their crypto funds.
