Techub News reports that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has recently recommended standardizing the data block and key sizes used in the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to 256 bits, and will seek public comments on the proposed changes before June 25, 2025.

NIST stated that due to the increasing number of applications requiring the processing of large amounts of data and the growing demand for these data-intensive applications, it is necessary to increase the size of the data blocks. Currently, the data block size used in AES is 128 bits, and the encryption key lengths are 128 bits, 192 bits, or 256 bits.
