Bitwise CEO Says 2025 Could Be the Year Businesses Adopt Bitcoin
Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley expects 2025 to be a pivotal year for corporate adoption of Bitcoin.
Bitwise is launching an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that focuses on companies that hold more than 1,000 bitcoins, with weights determined based on the company’s bitcoin reserves.
Although only 22 companies currently hold 1,000 or more bitcoins, many CFOs remain hesitant about bitcoin.
Bitwise Plans to Launch Bitcoin ETF
In a recent social media post, Horsley said:
“2025 looks like it will be a big year for new corporate adoption of the Bitcoin standard.”
The statement came as Bitwise published a draft of an ETF that aims to track companies that hold large amounts of Bitcoin reserves.
The fund is called the Bitwise Bitcoin Standard Corporations ETF, and it focuses on companies that hold more than 1,000 bitcoins in their vaults.
This fund differs from traditional index funds in that the weights are determined based on the amount of Bitcoin a company owns, not based on market capitalization.
“This strategy aims to highlight companies that are adopting Bitcoin as part of their financial policy,” Horsley explained.
Candidate companies must meet strict requirements, such as:
Market value of at least $100 million.
Average daily liquidity exceeding $1 million.

MicroStrategy Leads the Way
Bitcoin adoption by businesses is still in its early stages, with only 22 companies worldwide holding 1,000 or more bitcoins.
MicroStrategy, led by Michael Saylor, tops the list with over 444,000 bitcoins in its vault.
MSTR shares have seen a massive 2,200% surge since adopting Bitcoin as a primary asset in the company’s financial treasury.
In 2021, Tesla’s massive purchase of Bitcoin was expected to drive corporate adoption of the digital asset. But the expected trend has not fully materialized.
Major companies like Microsoft have also rejected proposals to explore investments in Bitcoin. According to polls, most CFOs are still reluctant to consider Bitcoin a store of capital value.

Optimism about the future
Despite these challenges, Horsley insists:
“This system is working. The ground is being paved, and 2025 could be the year we see wider acceptance of Bitcoin as a corporate treasury asset.”
This optimism is in line with general market dynamics, such as the increased interest of major institutions in Bitcoin.
Other companies, besides Bitwise, are exploring financial products tied to bitcoin. For example, Strive Asset Management recently filed to create a bitcoin bond ETF that would invest in convertible securities tied to bitcoin purchases.

Conclusion
While the path to corporate adoption of Bitcoin remains uncertain, Horsley's prediction highlights the potential for fundamental change.
Whether it’s through regulatory clarity, market dynamics, or growing confidence in Bitcoin as a store of value, 2025 looks set to be a defining year for Bitcoin in the corporate world.
