#Crypto2025Trends USDT to be delisted from EU exchanges

Yes, according to the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Regulation, cryptocurrency exchanges in the bloc must delist Tether (USDT) by December 30, 2024, unless Tether obtains the necessary license.

These regulations require issuers of stablecoins, such as Tether, to obtain an e-money license and comply with a set of strict rules. While Circle, the issuer of USDC, obtained such a license in July 2024, Tether has yet to do so.

The move is due to the EU’s concerns about USDT being used for illicit activities, such as money laundering and tax evasion. The move aims to enhance transparency and compliance in the cryptocurrency market within the bloc.

The delisting of USDT is expected to have an impact on the liquidity of European markets, as USDT is one of the most widely used stablecoins in trading. Traders may turn to alternatives such as the Euro or other stablecoins, which may impact trading patterns and liquidity in the market.
