CryptoQuant CEO: The U.S. Can Reduce Debt by Purchasing 1 Million Bitcoins

Can the U.S. reduce its national debt by hoarding Bitcoin? CryptoQuant's CEO Ki Young Ju recently shared his thoughts on social media. He believes that while it is politically challenging, it is theoretically feasible.

Ki shared his analysis on social media platform X, stating that over the past 15 years, $790 billion has flowed into Bitcoin, pushing its market capitalization to $2 trillion. In just this year alone, $352 billion has flowed in, adding $1 trillion to Bitcoin's market cap.

He also warned investors that replacing gold or the U.S. dollar with Bitcoin, an asset known for its volatility, could cause headaches for creditors. After all, Bitcoin prices fluctuate and are not very stable.

However, Ki believes that if the U.S. treats Bitcoin as a strategic asset and completes a plan to buy 1 million Bitcoins by 2050, it could offset 36% of the domestic debt held. This could potentially reduce America's reliance on inflationary monetary policies.

Matthew Sigel, the head of digital asset research at VanEck, also joined the discussion, calculating that if the U.S. Treasury accumulates 1 million Bitcoins at a price of $200,000 each over the next five years, by 2049, the growth of Bitcoin could cover a significant portion of U.S. debt and create new economic buffers for future liabilities.

Although all these analyses are still mere speculation, they reflect a great interest in managing national debt with digital assets. At the same time, Bitcoin's decentralization and scarcity are expected to make it an excellent tool for hedging against inflation and providing long-term stability for the financial system.
